PROJECT C X THE BRIDGE X 三興國小

Even with our busy schedules, Ian Chiang, Brent Hung and I, Lyon Chiang, as the founders of Project C and The Bridge, made it a priority to visit 三興國小. That day was special because we got to step away from our usual work and connect with the students directly.

We hosted a session where we taught basketball and shared some of our own life experiences. It wasn’t just about the drills or the game; it was about showing them how sports can teach lessons that go far beyond the court—like resilience, teamwork, and chasing dreams no matter how hard things get.

Seeing their enthusiasm and energy reminded me why we started these projects in the first place. It was a humbling experience to know we could make a difference, even if just for a day. Despite our packed schedules, moments like this are what truly matter—they’re what keep us grounded and motivated to do even more.

Sharing Experiences

We began the session by sharing the valuable life lessons we had learned throughout our journeys, hoping to pass on the wisdom gained from our experiences. Our goal was not just to teach them about basketball but to inspire a deeper understanding of resilience, determination, and the importance of pursuing their dreams.

By opening up about our personal stories, we aimed to connect with the students on a meaningful level, showing them that even challenges and setbacks can lead to growth and success. We wanted to ignite a spark within each of them, encouraging them to believe in their potential and to strive for greatness in their own lives.

As we shared the moments that shaped us, from our struggles to our triumphs, we emphasized the importance of hard work, self-belief, and the courage to face obstacles head-on. This was not just a storytelling session—it was a deliberate effort to plant the seeds of ambition and hope, leaving them with the motivation to dream big and the confidence to take the first steps toward achieving their goals.

Setting Goals

After sharing our stories and life lessons, we sat the students down and guided each of them in setting three sets of meaningful goals. The process was designed to encourage reflection and help them envision a clear path forward, both in the short and long term.

The first set of goals focused on what they wanted to achieve by the end of the semester—tangible, immediate objectives such as improving their grades or mastering specific skills. The second set was more ambitious, centered on what they hoped to accomplish by the end of the year, such as gaining admission to a top-ranked middle school or excelling in a particular field of interest. Finally, we asked them to think long-term and articulate their life goals, whether it was becoming a doctor, an athlete, an artist, or pursuing any dream they held dear.

Throughout this process, we encouraged them to share their goals with one another, fostering an environment of mutual support and inspiration. By verbalizing their aspirations, they took the first step toward turning them into reality. We emphasized that setting goals is not just about envisioning the future but also about committing to the effort needed to achieve them.

Manifesting Goals

We strongly believed that sharing their goals was just as important as writing them down. By verbalizing their aspirations, the students engaged in a form of manifestation, reinforcing their commitment to achieving their dreams. Sharing in front of their peers not only made their goals feel more real but also helped them develop confidence and improve their public speaking skills—a crucial ability that will serve them in countless ways throughout their lives.

As each student stood up and shared their goals, we were struck by their courage and the thoughtfulness behind their aspirations. The level of maturity, ambition, and determination these kids displayed truly shocked all three of us.

Their responses went far beyond what we had anticipated, leaving us deeply impressed by their potential and drive.

This moment of collective sharing created a supportive environment where the students encouraged one another, turning what could have been an intimidating activity into a celebration of ambition and possibility. It reinforced the idea that goals are not just personal milestones but also shared commitments that can inspire and uplift an entire community. For us, it was a humbling and unforgettable experience, one that left us inspired by the future these young minds will undoubtedly shape.

Basketball!!!

Finally, we reached the part that everyone had been eagerly waiting for—basketball! The excitement was palpable as we hit the court, ready to not only teach but also prove that we weren’t just all talk. Let’s just say, we weren’t about to let our stories do all the heavy lifting—we brought our A-game to show them what we’re really made of. (No pressure, right?)

As their coaches for the day, we played hard, showing them that every move and tip we shared came from real experience. We kept it fun and approachable, teaching them simple yet effective moves that they could master and build upon. Whether it was basic dribbling techniques, passing drills, or shooting form, we broke everything down step by step, ensuring that everyone, no matter their skill level, could learn and enjoy the game.

The court was filled with laughter, energy, and a sense of camaraderie that made the session unforgettable. It was more than just basketball—it was about inspiring confidence, building teamwork, and showing them that with practice and effort, they could achieve great things both on and off the court.
